This will calculate the best possible way to get your hit cap and also tell you what else you should be reforging, if any. Import your own character first then Cap #1 dropdown change it to hit, and set the overweight cap to 0. Not too hard to manage at all though working out priority is slightly difficult to begin with so I cheated and use PowerAura as provided in this guide which is where I got the inspiration to switch in raiding as frost (along with some metre checking). Frost is ironically now smack dab in the middle in terms of mana efficiency depending on which talents you get and which armor buff you use. Arcane is the most mana inefficient of the three so you will need to watch your mana pool and maintain it well. When cata rolled round I went back to fire with a frost offspec, now I raid as frost and if it's a heavy movement fight I swap to fire, such as Valiona/Theralion.Įach spec has it's own pros and cons. Lately everyone is all blah blah over Arcane, I was arcane for about a year during Wrath and I really did not enjoy it.

The best spec is the spec that feels right to YOU. Oh, and I wanted to add I really miss empowered fire too! I haven't found another really great blog that is as helpful either. I wouldn't go gemming for it or anything, but I'd keep all the crit you get on gear! I'm noticing your crit is about the same as mine as an arcane mage, and that seems off. I still have my fire spec to pop into for fights with a lot of aoe - but I reforged my gear with arcane in mind, meaning I reforged my crit into haste or mastery - and my perfomance in fire dropped. I used to run fire and then switched to arcane. You do need crits to proc hot streaks in fire - it's not your top stat, but it's good enough I wouldn't reforge it off. I'd reforge all your mastery to hit (or haste when you cap hit), but I'd keep all the crit you get on gear. I also notice you're reforging away crit and haste, which I wouldn't do as a fire mage. I'd probably go with an int enchant on your bracers as the best way to replace a little hit.

Power torrent would be much better on your weapon than volcano, and you are half a percent over hit cap, so you could drop a little hit. The trinkets you have aren't the hottest - I would suggest buying a darkmoon card volcano if you can afford it - on my server the price goes down by half when the faire comes to town.

You might want to try an addon, like combustion or mage nuggets or both, to help track everything. Your rotation seems fine if your also keeping the scorch debuff up - but do you have your on use trinket macroed to something? Or are you working that into your rotation? If you don't macro it, you probably want something to track when it's available. Tl dr mage came back to game after months of not playing, and all the mage blogs she read are gone, and she has no clue what spec is good anymore.įire and arcane should both outperform frost in a raid, so your fire spec should be fine. My fire priority on single-target is to use flame orb whenever it is available, use mirror image when available, keep up living bomb, spam fireball, use pyroblast when it procs, and to use combustion when I have a good ignite + lb up. I tried running my gear through Rawr, but it's super hard to figure out, and every time I run optimize, it changes its answers on what my gemming/reforging should be. Should I go frost? Arcane? I ran through heroics for honor and justice points to improve my gear, so it's as up-to-date as it can be (except for two blues I could replace with ilevel 353 epics).

Is fire not the top DPS spec anymore? The two other mages were frost. below the tanks! This has never happened before, and I don't know what's wrong. I joined a raid for the first time in months (the firelands one, my guilds raid group needed another dps), and my DPS was. What is your best mage PvE blog that you read? I've read all the main threads on EJ, but there is not much on how the different mages specs stack up against each other, and the fire thread in particular seems to be slow to update. I've checked all my old sources, and a lot of them are now defunct or not updated (Empowered Fire is a good example of this). I play a mage after two months of inactivity, and I need help figuring out the best pve spec. Dear wow ladies (or anything else you prefer to be called!),
